CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania DUI Association in conjunction with State Farm and State Farm Agent Rob Bozovich will host a Safety SIMulator from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday at the fall festival in downtown Clearfield.
The Safety SIM is a virtual driving experience that allows participants to sit in a real car “cockpit” with working instruments and a three-screen, 120-degree view. The Safety SIM creates impaired driving scenarios in which the driver or other vehicles on the road are being operated by someone under the influence.
The system operator can take the driver through a selection of hundreds of different driving scenarios. This risk free setting allows drivers to gain a better understanding of the risks associated with impaired driving.
Bozovich states, “I am proud to be able to partner with the Clearfield Borough police and bring the Safety SIMulator to Clearfield. This educational tool is helpful to drivers of all ages but is particularly effective with teen drivers.
“I want participants to leave with a positive impact towards their future driving decisions and hopefully prevent risky and dangerous driving behavior.”
Clearfield Borough police will be on hand again this year assisting with the Safety SIM. Office Nathan Curry states, “The Simulator is a bridge that gaps reality versus fantasy. When you mess up on the simulator you can restart or simply walk out of the trailer and go on with your day.
“Obviously in reality, the decisions you made cannot be reset or ignored. You will be forced to deal with the consequences of the decisions that were made. ”
The simulator will be available in front of the State Farm Office at 218 E. Locust St.
In addition to the Safety SIM, the fall festival will have a variety of craft and artisan vendors, live entertainment, food, hayrides, an antique car show, kid’s activities and more.
